Coordinate, do not match. Pick a colour palette of 2-3 tones (e.g. cream + navy + tan) and let everyone vary within it. Identical outfits look dated.

Avoid: Logos, slogans, busy patterns, neon brights, all-black or all-white groups, and anything you have never worn before.

Wear: Soft solids, gentle textures (knit, linen, denim), comfortable shoes you can walk in, layers for changing temperatures.

For kids: Test outfits a day before. Avoid anything itchy or new. Bring a backup outfit per child in case of spills.

1. How long have you been shooting families specifically? Wedding photographers and family photographers are different skill sets.

2. Can I see a full gallery, not just highlights? Highlight reels can hide weak photographers.

3. What is included - all digital images, prints, an album? Get this in writing.

4. What happens if my child will not cooperate? Experienced family photographers have a plan.

5. How long until I get the photos back? 2-6 weeks is normal. Longer than 8 is a red flag.

6. Are you insured and DBS-checked? Both should be yes for any photographer working with children.

7. Can I get a contract before paying a deposit? A real photographer will say yes immediately.
