Essence Photography is an award-winning wedding photography business based in Hilltown, just outside Newry, County Down. Photographer Karen Clerkin specialises in capturing weddings across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, serving couples who want their special day documented authentically and beautifully.

Karen's approach blends documentary-style photography with relaxed, guided portraiture. Rather than heavily posed shots, she focuses on capturing genuine moments as they naturally unfold—the laughter, stolen glances, and emotional beats that make weddings memorable. With over 15 years of experience, she understands that most couples feel uncomfortable in front of the camera, which is why she includes a complimentary pre-wedding photoshoot. This serves dual purposes: giving couples a chance to practise and helping them build confidence and rapport with Karen before their wedding day.

What sets Essence Photography apart is her recent recognition as Wedding Photographer of the Year 2026 by the Northern Ireland Wedding Awards, plus runner-up Photographer of the Year in 2025. She's an accredited Licentiate Member of the Professional Photographers Association of Northern Ireland and a finalist in the PPANI 2026 Classic Photographer of the Year.
